Two Men Used Their Turbans To Save Four Lives In Punjab

In a heroic act, two Sikh youth saved four youths from drowning in a canal in Sangrur. Four youths of Sarafa Bazaar Market had gone to a canal to immerse the Ganesha idol on Friday last when a gush of water made them lose their balance at Sular Ghaat near Sunam village. Inderpal Singh (34), who was sitting on embankment of the canal, noticed that the youths were drowning. He took off his turban, hurled it towards the youths and pulled them out with its help, police and eyewitnesses said. Kamalpreet Singh (25) followed suit. “My immediate reaction was to jump into the canal and try to save them. But I cannot swim. So I removed my turban and used it to save the boys,” he said to NDTV. The incident came to light after a video was circulated on the social media. One of the youth saved said Mr. Singh had first tried to pull them out with the help of a wire that was lying on theembankment of the canal but it broke. He then used his turban. The religious code of conduct doesn’t allow Sikhs to take off their turbans in public. We applaud both the youth for putting aside their religion to save lives and for the quick thinking.

15 Things We Learnt From Narendra Modi’s Townhall Meeting At Facebook

15 Things We Learnt From Narendra Modi’s Townhall Meeting At Facebook
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about a wide variety of topics during his townhall question and answer session at Facebook's headquarters in California.

About India’s future and the Make In India campaign

"When you want to turn around a scooter, it takes half a second. But when you want to turn around a train it is much more difficult."
"In 40 years, we have had 180 million people who didn't have a bank account. After my government came to power, in 100 days 180 million bank accounts were opened. That is the speed of change."
"The secret to Make In India? Low cost manufacturing, skill, man power, raw materials. I don't think this is something that someone can ignore. In fact, it is a paradise for investors."

About modest beginnings and his mother

"I came from a very humble family. It's hard to imagine that a tea seller has become the leader of the world's greatest democracy. For that I would like to thank the country."
"My father is no longer with us. My mother is over 90 years old now. She does all her work herself. She is not educated, but through television she knows what is happening in the news.”
"When we were young, to get by, we used to go to our neighbours' houses and clean the dishes, fill water.”
"So you can imagine what a mother has to do to raise her children. There are thousands of mothers like that and I salute them.”

Role of women in India's growth

"All societies believe in god, but mostly they are male., Only in India we have women goddesses - Durga, Kali, Amba."
"But as far as the government is concerned, if we have to achieve economic goals, we cannot imprison 50 percent of our population inside our homes. Women must walk shoulder to shoulder with men."
"As far as education is concerned and the health sector, there are a large number of women. We have now reservation for women in the police in some union territories where the government has jurisdiction."

Aside from everything Modi said, there was a revelation by Zuckerberg as well about an old trip to India:

Apparently, when Faebook wasn't doing too well and they were thinking of selling the company, Mark was adviced by his mentor Steve Jobs to visit a temple in India to get some clarity on his vision for the future of Facebook, just like he himself had done when Apple was in its initial phase. Zuckerberg made a one-month trip to India which helped him a lot and so he says Facebook owes a lot to India

60-Year-Old Milkman Saves 15 Kids From Drowning In Ganga up

Ramjit Yadav, a 60-year-old milkman, saved the lives of 15 children from drowning in Ganga single-handedly. He is being hailed as a local hero after the incident took place. Everyday, Yadav goes to Mirzapur, situated across Ganga, with cans of milk. Similarly, on Thursday he boarded the boat with 15 children who were going to a school in Rampur. Midway, water entered the boat and the boat started tumbling . The children got scared and the boatman lost control over the boat. Knowing the gravity of the situation he grabbed one child and jumped into the river and asked the remaining kids to cling to him. He then swam across the river. Seeing Ramjit carrying a group of students, some people on the bank of river jumped to rescue children safely. It is commendable that at he saved all the 15 children alone. On asking how he achieved this feat single-handedly, he revealed that he had learnt the skill of swimming in his childhood and the experience had saved the children. Chief-Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Akhiliesh Yadav, will award the hero of Mirzapur. However, we urge the District Magistrate and the CM to make some alternative arrangements so the villagers and the children don’t have to face such hardships to cross the river.

The Cop Smashed His Typewriter, This Old Man’s Only Source Of Income

Name – Kishan Kumar. He has been doing Hindi typing for 35-yrs outside General Post Office(GPO), Lucknow. He has been suspended just a few hours back”
Working 10 hours a day on his old typewriter, which cost him Rs 5000, he used to get 50Rs per day. But he could never imagine that the typewriter which earned him his bread and butter could not take a kick from a sick policeman.
After the first blow he collected the parts and put it back together, and begged for mercy as he was cursed with the sin called ‘Poverty’. But the shining stars on the shoulders of the police officer were so bright that they blinded him and he couldn’t see the shine of stars dripping down the poor man’s eyes. He snatched the typewriter from the poor man with his powerful arms and threw it smashing it into pieces. It shattered with the dreams of poor man.
65-year-old Krishna Kumar started collecting his dream wrapped in pieces of that typewriter. But every part of it cried like him, not able to get together. When we asked him now what was he going to do., he turned towards us, eyes filled with water and flowing pieces of dreams in it, and said that he had been doing that job for the past 35 years. He has seen the world change before his eyes; maybe it was time to change himself. Now Hindi was no more needed for the country like his old typewriter. He kept looking at the pieces of the typewriter with the shattered dreams in his eyes.
Many people have came forward to help the old person.
